Rolling Papers documentary.

Alchemy has acquired worldwide rights to director Mitch Dickman’s marijuana documentary “Rolling Papers” following its premiere at South by Southwest.

“’Rolling Papers’ is a must-see documentary about how the media and society deal with the rapid cultural shift to marijuana legalization,” said Alchemy topper Bill Lee. “The film couldn’t be more timely and we look forward to bringing it to a worldwide audience.”

The documentary centers on the Denver Post’s introduction last year of the Cannabist section — led by Ricardo Baca, the world’s first marijuana editor — as he sets out to report history in the making with a team of straitlaced staff writers and offbeat freelancers.

Producers are Britta Erickson, Daniel Junge, Karl Kister, Alison Greenberg-Millice and Katie Shapiro. Executive producers are Dave Berlin, Joni Eddy, Chad Troutwine and Walker Diebel.

“Rolling Papers” will be released later this year.

Alchemy’s Jeff Deutchman negotiated the deal with Zac Bright and Kevin Iwashina of Preferred Content, CAA and Richard Turner of Artioti Media Consulting on behalf of the filmmakers.

Earlier in the festival Alchemy picked up Antoine Bardou-Jacquet’s action-comedy “Moonwalkers,” starring Ron Perlman, Rupert Grint and Robert Sheehan.
