It seems as though every day Trump and his flunkies are trying to take back any progress we’ve made in the last 8 years. Him and the GOP are a joke…OH LOOK! Here’s another thing Trump is trying to take away from us
Sean Spicer was asked about the Trump Administration and weed, here’s what he had to say:
“There’s two distinct issues here: medical marijuana and recreational marijuana. I think medical marijuana, I’ve said before, that the president understands the pain and suffering that many people go through, who are facing especially terminal diseases, and the comfort that some of these drugs, including medical marijuana, can bring to them. And that’s one that Congress, through a rider in [2014], put an appropriations bill saying that the Department of Justice wouldn’t be funded to go after those folks.
There’s a big difference between that and recreational marijuana. And I think that when you see something like the opioid addiction crisis blossoming in so many states around this country, the last thing we should be doing is encouraging people. There’s still a federal law that we need to abide by when it comes to recreational marijuana and other drugs of that nature.”
It’s not really clear how the Trump administration will actually crackdown, but what’s pissing me off is Sean Spicer relating cannabis consumption to the opioid addiction crisis in our country.
Some people don’t have health care, something you need to get a medical diagnosis so that you can get the paperwork needed to obtain your medical card. The nice thing about recreational cannabis is that adults 21+ can walk into a local shop to get their pain or stress relief, just as if they were going to their local Target to pick up some aspirin. It’s a relief to know that they won’t take action on medical patients, but let’s be honest: rec products are the same as the medical ones, they just have a fancy label on the front.
Since weed has become legal in the states that allow medical or recreational consumption it’s been proven that opioid use and overdoses caused by opioids have dropped. A 2014 report found that opioid deaths decreased by 25% in states that allow cannabis consumption and medicinal cannabis consumption was associated with a 64% decrease in opioid use as well as a reduction in the amount and severity of side effects in the medicines and it improved their quality of life. It’s nice that Trump can see cannabis does have medicinal benefits that do help a lot of adults and children, many of whom are families who quit their jobs and uproot their families to states that have a legalized form of medicinal cannabis because their states don’t.
I’m not surprised by this turn of events, but I guess I had hoped since Trump was a businessman he’d pay attention to how much money the cannabis industry is making. North American sales grew by 30% in 2016 to $6.7 billion and sales are projected to top $20.2 billion in 2017. Part of DT’s campaign was more jobs for Americans, well the cannabis industry provides a lot of jobs. It’s being said that by 2020 the legal cannabis industry will create more than a quarter of a million jobs.
When dealing with transgender issues the Trump Administration sees it as being a states’ issue, but when it comes to legal weed all of a sudden it’s a federal issue. It’s also odd that Spicers comments are coming on the same day that Jeff Sessions decided to rescind a memo that was meant to phase out private prisons, but instead supporting them. It’s already a fact that POC are arrested at a higher rate than non POC’s when it comes to weed (let’s also touch on how many are shut out of the legal industry as a whole because of previous weed related arrests on their record).
My posting to Mrs. Nice Guy has always been pretty sporadic. It seems though that ever since the election of Not My President Cheeto Fuck i’ve fell into a funk of “what’s the point”, and I know i’m not the only one.
Once in awhile a creative spurt will hit, but nothing comes to fruition and I go back to my recliner and watch Gilmore Girls in the dark while I drink myself to sleep. That seems to be the only thing that helps. Sorta related to the not writing and reviewing, I was also having some issues with my breathing so I wasn’t smoking from December until recently.
I am a Latina female related to many of the people Trump is trying to deport and fuck over when it comes to healthcare, gender issues, public education, jobs, taxes, college education costs, and much more. It fucking sucks waking up every morning to bare witness to the next shit show…it’s never ending.
As you can see I am peeved. FUCK DONALD TRUMP.
